Wilmington Little Leagues Latest Game Summaries

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Below are a couple of recent Wilmington Little League game summaries:AAA: Astros vs. Pirates on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Boutwell FieldAnother hard-fought game was waged between the Pirates and the Astros. After leading for most of the game, the Pirates were unable to hold off the tenacious Astros, falling 10 to 8 in 5 innings. Mickey Moroney was stellar for the Pirates in his first game on the mound pitching two solid innings. With some timely hitting, the Pirates held leads of 4 to 1 and 5 to 3 into the middle innings. The Astros’ starter Dylan Costantiello struck out one and made a nice play in the field during his inning of work. Tony Cummings then pitched three innings, striking out seven and making two plays of his own. Finally, Cael Considine baffled the Pirates’ hitters in the last inning, striking out two. Solid fielding is emerging as one of the Astros’ strengths. Considine’s two putouts at first base, Aidan Raposa’s great play at third for an unassisted putout, and Owen Wills snaring a sharp grounder at third holding the Pirates’ batter to a single were three examples. Every Astro found his way on base during the game led by Kevin Pruslin, John Roofe, Patrick Moriarty, and Jake Gryglik who were each on base three times. Roofe continued his hot hitting with a single and a booming double. Moriarty ripped two singles as the other player with a two-hit afternoon. Raposa launched a screaming single up the middle in the third inning and Pruslin, Cummings, Considine, Andrew Santo, and Kyle Price added singles of their own. Costantiello, Connor Jamieson, Gryglik, and Wills were among those who displayed their keen batting eyes working walks and Gryglik again showed his blazing speed with a stolen base. The final rally included clutch hits and walks by Roofe, Santo, Raposa, Jamieson, and then the game-winning single by Moriarty scoring Santo. Overall, the Pirates and Astros left it all out on the field and had a great time doing so!Single A: Ray vs. Pirates on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Boutwell FieldThe Pirates and Rays played a close game. The Rays made several great plays and had strong pitching performances from Michael Crowley, Tommy Roofe, and Ryan Doherty. Defense was impressive tonight featuring great plays by Brendan Cyr and an impressive inning as catcher by Sean Witalisz. The bats were alive early on with some big hits by Benji Hebert, Alex Sullivan, Chris Gattineri, Jackson Childs, and Cameron White. The Pirates were led on the mound by Zach Maiella, Ryan Biggins, and Bart Zaino, while Joshua Lopez and Colby O’Brien were strong behind the plate. Jack Jamieson had a great defensive game at first base as well. The bats were on fire early, with Nico McCollem starting things with a leadoff hit. Bradley Stephen, Sam Beaudoin, and Sean Theodos joined in with their own timely hits, and Ben Sawyer showed off his speed running the bases.(NOTE: Summaries provided by the Wilmington Little League.)Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. John McAfee has been detained his Twitter account claims

first_imgJohn McAfee has apparently gone missing. Screenshot by Sean Hollister/CNET John McAfee has apparently gone missing and is believed to have been detained by authorities, according to a series of tweets Tuesday from the Twitter account of the 2020 presidential candidate and maker of an “unhackable” cryptocurrency wallet. Operating McAfee’s Twitter account, his campaign manager Rob Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Loggia-Ramirez said data hidden across the world by McAfee will be revealed if he remains detained. The antivirus software pioneer has been on the run since 2012 after his alleged involvement in a murder in Belize, which he denies. McAfee last week tweeted his only “crime is not filing tax returns.” He claims the rest of the charges against him is “propaganda by the US government to silence me.” “I have good reason to suspect that John McAfee, @theemrsmcafee and other companions have been detained by authorities at their latest port of call,” Loggia-Ramirez tweeted on McAfee’s account Tuesday. “If John misses his next check-in, events will be set into motion that I cannot prevent once they have begun. John has secreted data with individuals across the world. I know neither their identities or locations. They will release their payloads if John goes missing.” Loggia-Ramirez told CNET he has no more information about the detainment, but that he and others are “employing every possible resource to locate him and secure his release.” “The bastards wouldn’t even give him a cigarette,” Loggia-Ramirez tweeted. The Twitter thread didn’t say when McAfee’s next check-in was scheduled. On July 19, McAfee had tweeted that the CIA “attempted to collect us.” “We are at sea now and will report more soon. I will continue to be dark for the next few days,” he tweeted with a picture of himself and his wife holding guns. On July 22, McAfee then tweeted about being at sea in rough weather for four and a half days. “Nearing port. All is well. Will be back in the saddle shortly,” he said. Loggia-Ramirez told CNET later Tuesday that he could not share the plans or timeline for the release of the secreted data across the world. “I can say that our response has been pre-coordinated in the event something like this happened, and it that has many moving pieces involving people unaware of each other,” he said in a private Twitter message. “John is not stupid.” Loggia-Ramirez sent three additional tweets from McAfee’s account later on Tuesday, thanking people for their support and emphasizing that this is not a stunt.”There are also some people that doubt the veracity of today’s report. That is fair enough and can be forgiven. But you will find you are mistaken – this is not a publicity stunt,” he tweeted.  (2/4) I last spoke with John as his boat was being boarded. first_imgOYO RoomsReutersHoteliers across India are planning to take the legal route to force bookings aggregator Oyo to abandon alleged predatory behaviour. Hundreds of budget hotels in major metros such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata have joined hands to take the move forward, the Economic Times reported. The grouse of the hoteliers is that Oyo is suppressing prices, changing contract terms and threatening to delay payments. The Budget Hotel Association of Mumbai is in the forefront of forming a nationwide lobby of hoteliers.Oyo, a unicorn startup flush with money, raised $1 billion in September, taking its valuation to $5 billion.”Rooms that we used to sell for Rs 2,000-2,500 are now being sold for Rs 800-900. Because of funding they are able to sell rooms at much lower rates. The minimum guarantee fee is also not coming, so we are not left with a choice,” Budget Hotel Association of Mumbai president Ashraf Ali told the daily.Oyo, India’s most valued startup built by Ritesh Agarwal, disrupted the hotel booking process entirely, offering customers a wide variety of rooms at dirt cheap rates.Backed by Japan’s Softbank and flush with funds, Oyo is already the biggest hotel chain in India. The company is also expanding aggressively into foreign markets like China and Japan. The Gurgaon-based company now manages as many as 180,000 rooms in China, compared with about 150,000 rooms in India and the rest of south Asia combined.Oyo Hotels & Homes, which is India’s second most valuable startup after Paytm, opened up great vistas of opportunities for travellers around the country but the innovative business practice is eating into the profits of hotel owners and threatening to unravel their commercial existence. OYO Rooms founder Ritesh AgarwalHotels owners in various cities say that they are left with meagre little after Oyo levies around 23-30 percent of the heavily discounted prices. Of late, the online platform has been arm-twisting them into accepting terms that are not viable anymore, the owners say.Oyo denied the charges, adding that it is focused on offering fair pricing to customers while hotel owners get an opportunity to scale their business using the platform.last_img read more

Kappa Alpha Psi Alumni Chapter Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Kappa Alpha Psi Alumni Chapter Celebrates 40th Anniversary

first_imgBy Mark F. Gray, AFRO Staff Writer, mgray@afro.comThe Hyattsville/ Landover alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity has been one of the most impactful in its community since its inception in 1979. Their 40th anniversary provided them with an opportunity to laud those who were pillars in the foundation and who have helped it become one of the most influential chapters in the nation during the ceremony at the Hotel at the University of Maryland in College Park.As a chapter that began much like a startup company, Hyattsville/ Landover has leveraged the professional success of its brothers to form the direction of its vision.  It is also a chapter that gained political capital through its four decades of community service.   During its 40 year existence they have remained committed to the youth of Prince George’s County through a “strong organizational foundation that serves both the community and provides programs for youth,” says 18th Chapter Polemarch Michael K. Pitts. The Hyattsville/ Landover alumni chapter of Kappy Alpha Psi Fraternity celebrated its 40th anniversary with a ceremony at the Hotel at the University of Maryland in College Park. (Courtesy Photo)This chapter’s local influence has been noteworthy through various initiatives that began without fanfare and remains behind a silhouette of the many lives it has touched.   High school students in Prince George’s County have benefitted from the chapter’s Guide Right Program, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) preparation and financial aid workshops.   The progressive vision of the chapter has been an example for others throughout the fraternity nationwide.“Our achievements over the last four decades demonstrate how the chapter established a paradigm for community service for fraternities and sororities I Prince George’s County,” says Clarence Jones, the chapter’s historian and chairman of the 40th anniversary of the Awards Planning and Celebration Committee.  “We crossed a mediocre threshold, creating a new threshold and a new threshold of helping others.  These four decades tell the story of how a new era of in community service began to take hold.”During a, sometimes, emotional evening among the brotherhood, laughs and spirits flowed with memories and camaraderie they forged through the years of its volunteer work in Prince George’s County. The chapter’s precedent was acknowledged for how it’s standard has raised the bar for other alumni chapters around the country.  This chapter has been noted for being at the forefront of supporting Kappa Alpha Psi’s national level and has been supportive all around in working with the divine nine. which is the consortium of Black Greek fraternities and sororities.Thomas L. Battles, Jr., the 33rd Grand Polemarch of the national organization, was the keynote speaker and gave credit to this local alumni chapter for evolving from its humble beginning, where it gave men who were interested a chance to pledge to become a member of the vanguard of civic impact.  The men of the Hyattsville/ Landover alumni chapter developed much of the mentoring programming that many national undergraduate and graduate chapters utilize regularly.“This chapter has been at the front of young and old training for leadership,” Battles Jr. said.  “We have always been able to count on the Hyattsville/ Landover alumni chapter to support what we are trying to accomplish through our work in conjunction with the divine nine.”Battles, Jr. also challenged the chapter to continue its leadership in mentoring, especially leading up to the 2020 presidential elections.  While he and the rest of the leaders of the divine nine are moving towards establishing a political action committee to ensure that challenges facing HBCU’s, he was resolute about equipping a new generation with skills necessary to advocate for themselves and to try to change the direction of the country.“We’ve got to teach kids how to tell their story,” Battles, Jr. said.  “Kids are dying these days because they can’t express themselves to authorities.”last_img read more

Artificially sweetened sodas aerated drinks lead to infertility

first_imgWith sedentary lifestyle being one of the biggest reasons causing infertility, doctors say consumption of artificially sweetened sodas and aerated drinks may also lead to infertility in humans.Aerated drinks contain an artificial sweetener, aspartame, which can disrupt the endocrine system leading to hormonal imbalance and infertility issues in women.”Almost all of the soft drinks and sodas contain aspartame which is linked to many health problems including infertility, malformations and miscarriages,” said Arvind Vaid, an IVF expert at city-based Indira IVF. Also Read – Add new books to your shelf”Excess consumption leads to hormonal imbalance and fluctuation that causes ovulatory disorders and even worsens PMS (Premenstrual symptoms),” he added.Stating that phenylalanine and aspartic acids are the two amino acids present in aspartame considered natural and harmless when eaten in combination with other amino acids, the experts said when they are taken unaccompanied, it stimulates the generation of free radicals which leads to cell death.”Sperm and ovum, being cells, have 90 per cent chances of dying when this is consumed in excess. It is advised by many doctors and experts to avoid anything that helps in the formation of free radicals in the body for the significance of reproductive health,” said Vaid. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveRachna Jaiswar, associated with Gynaecology Department of Safdarjung Hospital, said consumption of sugary aerated drinks restrains the immune system causing weight gain and hormonal imbalance, which strongly contributes to fertility issues. “Soda is a highly acidic beverage, which alters the pH level of the body with excess consumption,” said Jaiswar.Talking about the high consumption of aerated drinks and sodas by men, Jaishwar said due to lack of nutrients in a high pH atmosphere, sperm cells either get harmed leading to its abnormal shape and poor quality or eventually die. “Moreover Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical that reduces the male semen quality, is found in the lining of plastic bottles and most canned goods. Men who consume soft drinks more often are at 4 times the risk of lowering their sperm count, motility and concentration,” said Jaiswar.Doctors also said most of the soft drinks are caffeinated and contain fructose, which are associated with a higher risk of ovulatory disorders and infertility among women. “Caffeine is known to be a vasoconstrictor that reduces uterine blood flow thereby reducing menstrual bleeding and shortening the duration of menses. Combination of caffeine, aspartame and fructose affects the sex hormones and the hormone receptors, even leading to infertility,” said Radhika Vajpayee, IVF expert based in Lucknow.last_img read more
